Altered Tin Cans

Tried a new craft this week...altered tin cans. My friend Beckie mentioned this idea she saw to me and then a couple days later I saw some pics on the net. So I thought I'd give it a try. You just use any tin can....olives, tomato sauce, soup, whatever. You have to have one of those "safe edge" can openers though. That way you can put the lid back on (it's not sealed, it just sits there) You can use them as gift boxes, trinket holders, party favors, the ideas are endless. You alter it to fit your needs. Here are some pics of the two that I did.

This one I made for my daughter to keep some jewelry in. It would also make an adorable favor box if you filled it with mints or candy. The pics show how the can started and eventually the finished product.

This one I made to use to hold a gift card as a thank you gift for a friend.

Have fun thinking of ways to alter your tin cans!

  3. Shan try it with Chunky Soup cans and take out the bottom instead. Then fill the can and reseal. I sent one to Louette the other day. Totally cute and a neat way to present a present.

  4. We made these last year for the children in our primary at church. We put fun little toys inside and gave them to them for their birthdays. We super glued the lid back on and they had to use a can opener when they got home to open them. They loved them!
