I'm getting up off my hiney!

I recently purchased the necessary items to complete my "walking workstation". The TV on the wall doubles as my second computer monitor. It also functions as a normal tv! My hubby constructed a desk that attaches to the arms of my treadmill. So now....instead of my treadmill collecting dust I actually use it.

I literally walk while I'm working on the computer. I work on my designs, check my emails, and write blog posts (like I'm doing right now!).Most of the time is spent doing the actual work of my design business. It's super cool! The best part about it is that I'm no longer just sitting on my hiney contributing to the growing wideness of it anymore.

Today I have walked for 3 hours. I've walked nearly 7 miles and I've burned nearly 700 calories!!! I'm hoping that this will be my new secret weapon to a smaller behind!!

  6. I saw that at your place for the staff dinner but didn't have time to fully take it in....WOW....My treadmill has been wonderful at holding hanging clothes, entertaining the kids and collecting all the extra dust that I don't see on my coffee table. If we ever get an extra room so the treadmill can be set up THAT is what I am asking my husband to build. What a great idea! I can't tell you the number of times I've needed to do something on the computer but felt I coudn't afford 1 more minute sitting on my rear! I would so not feel guilty with that set up!!! Good job Shannon...you're sure to get a smaller hiney with that! Good Job on the desk for the key board Todd...

  8. That is so cool Shan. I need to do that. Will you hubby build me one for my treadmill. That really is awesome, I think that will help so much. How fast can you go while designing? Wink.

  9. How in the world are you able to walk and type or design or whatever at the same time? I don't think I'm that coordinated. I've tried to read my book on my treadmill and I can't do it. What's your secret?

Oh, and can you also sit if you want? Is it interchangeable?

  10. I've walked as fast as 3mph. But normally I do around 2.4-2.6 Sometimes I put it at an incline as well.

My keyboard and mouse are bluetooth so I move them from my real desk to my tread desk no problem. My regular computer monitor still sits on my real desk. The tv on the wall is my secondary monitor. We had to run a special cable (through the wall and attic...just so we didn't have cables lying on the ground) and you have to make sure that the tv is pc compatable. It's kind of complicated and you might need someone who really knows what they are talking about to assist you with the set up. ....We know people!! It wasn't a cheap venture...we had to buy the tv...the cable...a new graphics card for my computer, the bluetooth stuff. But I think it's totally worth it!

the other day I was actually on the tread, working on a design...AND talking to my sister ALL at the same time! You multi-taskers would LOVE it!

Of course the easiest way to set up a tread desk...just use a laptop!

  11. That's quite the set up Shannon! Though I;m with the Treffeisens...I do no think I'm that coordinated. I can't read on the treadmill either. Maybe I walk too fast though. Great idea!

  12. LOVE the idea. I would fall flat on my face! I don't even think I could talk on the phone and walk. My balance is totally whacked though.

Whatever happened with the neighborhood biggest loser?

  13. That is the coolest....I was going to ask you how the neighborhood challenge is going??

  22. Ok, this may be the most fabulous idea ever. I have a tv on the wall in front of the treadmill already. I *so* need to figure out how to do this! (and by do this I mean make my husband do this for me)

  23. Amazing! Way to go! I bet your hiney has shrunken already!

  24. Love this idea! I've seen this kind of thing on 20/20 for the "pricey" ones. Gotta get my hubby to make one for me. Also, love your designs! Found you through someone referencing your banner. I'm a blog designer as well. Wonderful work! :)

  26. i just a comment elsewhere and wondered "why i am SITTING and typing this when I could be WALKING and typing this?!?" so thanks again for the inspiration.

btw, are your totals often 99 minutes just because your timer doesn't go higher than that? my 'mill might have that same "problem" -- i've just never been on it long enough (yet) to find out. : )
