Worst Mother of the Year!

It's official. I've given myself this award today because I earned it! I woke up today and got my daughter off to school. Then it was off to the store with my son to get him a sparkling white t-shirt to wear in his school program. we got the t-shirt and headed to the school. when we got to the doors they were locked. we jiggled them a bit and a secretary came to the doors with a funny look on her face. She said, "there is no school today." I said, "I know, we are here for the program." She said, "the program was yesterday."
So on my son's last year of preschool and his final preschool program.....we missed it! Because of me and not being aware enough and paying good enough attention to all the little papers that come back in his folder! I honestly thought it was today and that there was no school today BECAUSE the programs were today. WRONG!!! Oh, I'm feeling like a total loser right now. My son was disappointed, and he's already smart enough at his young age to say, "mom, you owe me something special now!" Smart kid!

So, here is my award! I earned it today!

  1. oh, you poor thing! What a horrible feeling...I think you deserve something special to. You know, to help combat the guilt trip. At least some chocolate.

Well, I guess you can take solace in knowing this will be a great family story some time down the road. "hey mom...remember that one time...."

Hope the rest of your week gets better quick quick.

  2. You are so not the worst mother of the year!!! You are a wonderful mother who made a mistake. We all make them! I made Jack miss school on Friday and he was heart broken... bought him some airheads and all was right with the world. Played outside with him and life was even better. All is forgotten now.

Your a great mom Shannon. Maybe you could put his program on at home for Todd?

  3. Oh man! What at a bummer. Something special will certainly make him forgive you. They forgive so easily at that young age!

I was going to suggest the same thing that Meredith suggested. Let him do the program (or at least his parts) at home for you, dad and sis. make a big deal about it, and video tape it.

i have a post coming later today that will make you want to pass your "worst mother of the year trophy" on to me. I am definitely deserving of it!

  4. That is soooo sad for my Colt the Bolt! Please don't make this all about you, it's about my sweet innocent nephew. Lol! I missed Mikelle's pre-school graduation last year, when I went to the emergency room with my dizziness and all that. Atleast she was there though! Colt is my kind of guy, holding it over your head. ha ha! Good luck with that, sis!

  7. you're a great mom eight, when you said his bottom lip was quivering a little I could just picture it and felt sad for him. I have however seen his face light up when he gets a special gift. Plus I do have to say even tho I was coming to the program (IDOL IS ON TONIGHT AND IT IS THE FINALS) No two Davids could out weigh my Colt. LOL MOM

  8. Try not to beat yourself up! We've all been there before. When my boys were in preschool, we came home early from a trip to the beach- just to let our oldest son go on a hayride field trip with his class. When we showed up at school, we found out that the field trip was actually the previous day (sound familiar?!?!) And to think, not only did we miss out on the field trip, but we also gave up an extra day at the beach!

Either you're only human, or I've deserved the worst mama award, too! I choose to believe that we're only human!

  10. This reminds me of the time Signe was invited to her first birthday party ever, AND it was a princess dress up party with jewelry making and princess crowns handed out plus special fancy cupcakes and all that. I realized we had missed it as we passed the house on the way home and the princess party guests were all leaving in their finery with their stash of prizes. You should have seen Signe's shocked look of dismay when she realized she had missed it! Luckily, I was friends with the mom and she let us come in and make jewelry anyway and she had saved a crown for Sig. She felt a lot better walking home with TWO cupcakes and her stash of treats. I honestly think I felt worse than she did!

  11. Sorry Shannon I think I may be able to top that. Tanner sucked down some bug spray this past weekend. He threw up all over the place for two days and mommy got to feel like the biggest loser on the phone with poison control explaining how he got to it. Don't beat yourself up too much. Things happen and we make mistakes. At least that is what i have been telling myself to make me feel better :-)
